Accredited Healthcare Professional Bodies

Healthcare professional organisations accredited under the AR Scheme must be committed to the following:

  • Public protection;
  • Governance;
  • Risk management;
  • Establishment of standards for registrants;
  • Effective management of the registers;
  • Education and training;
  • Provision of information;
  • Management of complaints; and
  • Engagement of relevant stakeholders.

Healthcare professional organisations maintaining registers of healthcare professionals should have a broad representation of the corresponding profession and an established operation for a substantive period of time. The core functions of the professional bodies should include setting standards, registration, and professional education and development.

Accredited professional bodies who are fully accredited to maintain accredited registers for healthcare professions are also required to (1) undergo Mid-cycle Review by the Survey Team at the end of second year of accreditation; and (2) undergo Re-accreditation Surveys every four years in order to maintain/renew the accreditation.

Hong Kong Institute of Speech Therapists (HKIST)

Accreditation Status: Full Accreditation

Accredited since 19 April 2018

Hong Kong Institute of Speech Therapists (HKIST) was established in September 2017 to ensure that the public could have access to professional speech therapy services provided by qualified speech therapists.

The functions of HKIST are –

  • To safeguard the public interests in accessing speech therapy services
  • To ensure adequate standards of professional practice and of professional conduct among accredited speech therapists
  • To maintain and update the register of accredited speech therapists in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Institute of Audiologists (HKIA)

Accreditation Status: Full Accreditation

Accredited since 30 November 2018

Hong Kong Institute of Audiologists (HKIA) was established in March 2018 to enhance the professional standard of audiologists in Hong Kong. HKIA ensures that the public could have access to professional audiological assessment and rehabilitation services provided by qualified audiologists.

The missions of the HKIA include –

  • To safeguard the public interests in accessing audiology services in Hong Kong
  • To promote adequate standards of professional practice and professional conduct among accredited audiologists
  • To establish and maintain the register of accredited audiologists in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Academy of Accredited Dietitians (HKAAD)

Accreditation Status: Full Accreditation

The Hong Kong Academy of Accredited Dietitians (HKAAD) was established to hold and maintain a register of Accredited Dietitians (ADs) to assist the public and employers to identify suitably qualified competent dietitians. ADs must adhere to and maintain a high standard of professional practice. ADs are required to observe the HKAAD Scope of Practice, adhere to a set of Competency Standards and comply with a professional Code of Ethics. ADs are also required to undertake continuing professional development to ensure that their dietetics knowledge and skills are up-to-date with an aim of delivering the highest quality of dietetic services to their clients/service users.

Hong Kong Association of Educational Psychologists (HKAEP)

The Hong Kong Association of Educational Psychologists (HKAEP) was set up in 2017 by a group of educational psychologists (EPs) for the accreditation and management of the register of EPs, and the regulation of the services provided by its members. HKAEP is an organization of registered Educational Psychologists who are committed to providing and advancing professional psychoeducational services for the human well-being. All members of HKAEP have obtained a Master's or Doctoral degree in educational psychology with an emphasis on professional practice, or equivalent.

Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists (HKICP)

Accreditation Status: Full Accreditation

Accredited since 31 October 2019

Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists (HKICP) was established in September 2017 to ensure that the society of Hong Kong is served by an ethical and competent profession of clinical psychologists. HKICP is committed to advancing professional clinical psychology services for human well-being.

The missions of the HKICP include -

  • To prescribe the qualifications required for the practice of clinical psychology and the standard of professional conduct
  • To manage a register of accredited clinical psychologists in Hong Kong which is accessible to the public
  • To receive and adjudicate on complaints against registrants of HKICP in a just and fair manner
